About Electrical Engineering

The Electrical Engineering department at KFUPM came into existence with the establishment of the University of Petroleum & Minerals in 1967. It is one of the largest departments in the University with an average number of students being approximately 900, 16% of whom are in the graduate program. The department provides 2 four-year undergraduate programs, Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Physics. The graduate program offers Master of Science and Master of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Telecommunication Engineering, Master of Sustainable and Renewable Energy, Master of Wireless Communication Networks, and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering.

The department has about 61 full-time faculty members in 6 specialized areas of research. The Groups in the department are: Energy Systems, Communications, Electronics, Control Systems, Electromagnetics, and Digital Signal Processing. Additionally, a pool of experienced engineers and technicians maintain more than 30 laboratories in the department.

Tanner EDA Design Flow Online Workshop – Mr. Ahmed Salem

On April 15, 2026, the Electrical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Physics hosted an online workshop titled “Tanner EDA Design Flow Online Workshop,” delivered by Mr. Ahmed Salem. The session was conducted virtually at 01:00 PM.

During the workshop, Mr. Salem provided a comprehensive introduction to the Tanner EDA design flow, guiding participants through the essential steps of analog circuit design. He demonstrated how to draw schematics, create symbols, and set up testbenches for circuit simulation.

The workshop also covered various simulation techniques using T-Spice, including DC, transient, AC, and S-parameter analyses. Participants gained practical insights into how these simulations are used to evaluate and optimize circuit performance.

In addition, Mr. Salem introduced the fundamentals of physical layout design, emphasizing its importance in achieving complete circuit verification. The workshop highlighted the integration between schematic design, simulation, and layout as a unified workflow for efficient and reliable electronic circuit development.
