On April 21, 2026, the Electrical Engineering Department hosted a seminar titled “Semiconductor Lasers for Future Photonic Integrated Circuits,” delivered by Dr. Omar Alkhazragi, Assistant Professor at the Electrical Engineering Department at KFUPM.
The seminar highlighted the critical role of semiconductor lasers as foundational components in the advancement of photonic integrated circuits (PICs). Dr. Alkhazragi presented an overview of recent research efforts focused on the development of emerging laser diode technologies and their integration into next-generation photonic systems.
The talk explored how these technologies enable new applications across various domains, including high-speed communications, artificial intelligence acceleration, neuromorphic computing, and quantum technologies. Emphasis was placed on the design and fabrication of multi-functional semiconductor optoelectronic devices and their potential to enhance system performance and scalability.
