Low-Cost High Gain Millimeter Wave Planar Antennas By Dr. Yazan Al-Alem

On October 23, 2024, Dr. Yazan Al-Alem delivered a seminar titled " Low-Cost High Gain Millimeter Wave Planar Antennas." The seminar highlighted the critical role of high-gain antennas in the upcoming fifth generation of wireless communication systems. As signals propagate at millimeter-wave frequencies, high path loss becomes a challenge, making high-gain antennas essential for transceiver front ends. However, while many current high-gain antenna solutions are complex and costly to manufacture, the seminar introduced an innovative approach based on affordable, planar printed circuit board (PCB) technology.

The proposed antennas promise both cost-effectiveness and strong performance, making them ideal for short-range, low-power applications such as Wireless Personal Area Networks (WPAN). The presentation also offered fresh insights into the design of mm-wave high-gain antennas, streamlining the design process and making it more accessible. This seminar provided a valuable perspective on advancing efficient, high-performing antennas to support the future of wireless communications.
